Water Cycle
Research:
Considerable
attention has been given to the importance of the global water and
energy cycle in assessing the consequences of natural and
human-induced climate change. In particular, the U.S. Global
Change Research Program (USGCRP) Plan for a New Science
Initiative on the Global Water Cycle” and the subsequent National
Research Council response, have identified the global water cycle
as a critical research theme in order to advance climate-change
research in the coming decades. More recently, the Climate Change
Science Program (CCSP)
has identified the water-cycle as a critical cross-cutting theme
that all science agencies must address in a coordinated and
optimally synergistic fashion. As such, the challenge faced by the
scientific community is to construct an ambitious, focused and
coordinated implementation plan that will significantly advance our
understanding of and predictive capabilities within this
cross-cutting, scientific theme and, generally speaking,
climate-change science.
Short
Bio:
Ms. Belvedere
accepted the position as CREW
Assistant Director on January 2, 2006. As a project coordination expert,
she brings expertise from coordinating many large interdisciplinary
programs. Her work
supports scientific collaboration and coordination of global water
and energy cycle research, specifically, planning task-forces
consisting of researchers from the broader scientific
community. These task
forces have worked to produce and enable implementation plans that
answer to the emergence of cross-cutting water-cycle research
initiatives brought forth by inter-agency and
government-administrative science panels. Currently she is involved in the
NASA Energy and Water cycle Study (NEWS) , and WaterNet: The NASA Water
Cycle Solutions Network project,
Debbie received her
Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance from Oswego State
University, Oswego, NY.
She worked as a teacher, musician, and co-owner/manger of a white
linen restaurant before her tenure at Goddard in 1995 where she
assisted the Climate and Radiation and Hydrological Sciences
Branches respectively. Debbie is married to Joe Belvedere and has
two children, Melissa and Joseph III. Her hobbies include boating,
winter and water sports, hiking, music and dance.
